Here is some quick, basic information on these beautiful snakes.

First, there are multiple kinds of boa constrictors..   such as BCI, BCO, BCA, etc.  We only deal with BCI, so that is the type we will discuss today.

These boa constrictors range in size from 5 feet to around 7 feet, and can live up to around 30 years.

The need a hot spot of low to mid 90s, and a low spot of low to mid 80s.  Do NOT use heat rocks, as they are known to malfunction and cause burns.

Be sure to have a dish of fresh, clean water in their cage that is large enough for the snake to coil up in.

They like to coil up into tight areas, so be sure to have a nice hut for them to curl up under.

The substrate I would recommend is either aspen or cypress.  Newspaper and astroturf also work well.  Be sure to STAY AWAY from cedar and pine.  Both have natural oils that are toxic to small animals.

Boa constrictors can eat a variety of rodents, such as mice, rats, hamsters and gerbils, even guinea pigs and rabbits.  Be sure to feed the appropriate sized meal for your snake.  The meal should be NO bigger then the girth of your snake.  Feeding food too large can cause severe damage to the snake.

Boas can get to be quite large.  Some people may need help handling some of the larger ones.

BABIES!  This morning I awoke to 29 slimey baby boas!  There are 11 hypos pos. het anerys, and 18 normal pos. het anerys.  After a shed, and a few good meals, these babies will be up for sale.

The boas have now been in their old cage for about 6 months, and have had a few lock ups.  I have not seen any signs that she is gravid, but I still have my fingers crossed.

Well, after many lock ups and no babies, I decided to move them into their old cage (in which she has produced)  We hope that this will make her "happy", and get some babies next year from her!
